In the early morning of January 31st, 1968, a division of Vietcong soldiers launched a massive attack on the city of Hue. Two U.S. Army battalions ( 7th and 12th Calvary Regiments) and three understrength U.S. Marine Corps (3rd Battalion, 5th Marines, 1st Battalion, 1st Marines, and 2nd Battalion, 5th Marines) battalions defeated the invading force over the ensuing two months of battle. In 1814, the great American author Washington Irving met a young captain named Ichabod Crane. 6 years later, when Irving would write the Legend of Sleepy Hollow, Ichabod Crane would provide the inspiration for the main character with his namesake. At the time CPT Crane commanded Battery B of the 1st Artillery a unit that is still operational today as the 2nd BN 1st Air Defense Artillery in the 35th Air Defense Artillery Brigade.  Read more about the real Ichabod Crane here. https://www.wearbluecloth.com/blogs/news/2-1-ada-bn-ichabod-crane

The history of the 4-2 Attack Reconnaissance Battalion goes back much further than the Apache Helicopter. The 3rd Squadron, 6th Cavalry was formed back in May 1861 and fought through the Civil War, Indian Wars, the Spanish-American War (as pictured here) and then throughout World War I and II. It was only just in 2006 that the 3rd Squadron, 6th Cavalry was re-activated as the 4th Battalion, 2nd Aviation Regiment.
