Release Notes

Updated as of May 2025

December 8, 2020

What's New

  • Share a Folder Using Its URL: At last, it’s now possible to share folders by sending around a shareable URL, rather than requiring members to be added one-by-one. Just go to the folder you want to share, click the share button, hit the “Shareable Link” switch, and send the URL to whoever you’d like to add. For Web and Desktop

What's New

  • Multi Factor Authentication: This adds an extra layer of security by asking for a verification code after you sign in with your email address and password. From the Admin Console under Accounts & Access, Admins will see a new Multi Factor Authentication option available. Once enabled, any user entering a password to log in will be prompted to enroll in an additional verification method (Salesforce Authenticator, Authy, Google Authenticator, etc). Any user logging in with SAML/SSO will not be affected by this change.

  • Improved User Hovercards: They’re bigger and better! Now when you hover over someone’s name or avatar, it’s much easier to message them, see their status and presence, and copy their email address to your clipboard with just one click. For Web and Desktop

What's New

  • A New Look for Account Settings We’ve reorganized the account settings menu to make it easier to tweak your Quip experience just so. For Web and Desktop

  • Apple Silicon Support The Quip Mac application now runs natively on Apple Silicon (M1) devices, for improved performance. For Mac

  • Better Folder Breadcrumbs: It turns out many of you have folders that are very, very deep within other folders, and that it the breadcrumbs for those folders were getting terribly squished. Sorry about that. We’ve redesigned them for better readability and easier navigation. (You’ll notice the new design when sharing, searching, browsing folders, and clicking the folder label next to document titles.). For Web and Desktop

What's New

  • Salesforce Data Mentions: Bring Salesforce data even more seamlessly into Quip with Data Mentions. Just @mention any standard or custom Salesforce field in-line in a Quip document and spreadsheet, and you’ll get a dynamic field that always stays up-to-date. Users are able to edit Salesforce fields and save back to Salesforce. For Web, Desktop

  • Removing the Inline Toolbar for Live Apps: We did some clean up and got rid of the inline formatting toolbar – a relic from Quip’s past – that still remained for Live Apps. You can continue to apply formatting to content in Live Apps via the standard toolbar at the top. For Web and Desktop

  • Export Live App API: To analyze your live app data or reinitialize live apps somewhere else, use the Export Live App API. Export a Salesforce live app to an HTML tag that can be turned back to a live app. Supported live apps include Salesforce Record, Salesforce List, Calendar, Kanban Board, Project Tracker, and custom live apps. For Web and Desktop

  • Slides Retirement: We are retiring slides on January 31, 2021. After this date, users will no longer be able to create slide presentations in Quip and existing Quip Slides will be view only. If you want to continue editing content in a slide, we encourage you to move it to a document. For Web and Desktop

What's New

  • Sunsetting a Feature that Converted Emails into Quip Documents: We’ll no longer be supporting the share@quip.com email address which could previously be used to generate new documents via email.

  • Customize Your Salesforce List Views with Filters in Quip: Curate your Salesforce List live apps in Quip to show only the records that you care about. With customizable filters in Quip, users can filter list views and related lists based on the fields that they specify. Related lists are easier to manage and users can filter out old or irrelevant records over time. For Web

What's New

  • Log Activity Enhancements: Log activity for all custom and standard Salesforce objects from a Quip document. Add calls, tasks, and events to supported activity types in Quip. For Desktop

  • Salesforce Cloud Icon: We centralized all of Quip’s Salesforce actions into one place. Now you can go to the new Salesforce Cloud (next to the Share button) to add Salesforce data to your documents, log activity from Quip, and manage your Salesforce records. For Desktop

  • Manage Quip Templates with the Template Library: Create templates from Quip documents and easily access them from Quip’s new Template Library. Users can now create and share templates in private galleries, like the Created by Me and Shared with Me galleries, or get started with sample templates. For Desktop

  • Create a Relationship Map in Quip with Live Salesforce Data: Build relationship maps in your Account Plans with imported Salesforce record data from both standard and custom objects. Refresh your map and sync field edits back to Salesforce. To add data to your maps that exist outside of Salesforce, create custom Quip cards. For Desktop and Mobile

  • Trash Support*: Deleted documents are now visible in a special “Trash” folder and can be recovered for up to 30 days. For iOS

  • Improved Keyboard Shortcuts on iPads: The keyboard shortcuts that you know and love from Quip on the desktop now also work on iPads with keyboards: ⌘-J (search), ⌘-Shift-I (Updates), ⌘-Shift-S (Favorites), ⌘-Shift-E (Notifications). For iOS

  • Copy Document Links from the Desktop App: Let’s say you’re looking at a document in the desktop app, and you want to copy it’s link. But how can you do it when there’s no URL bar? Easy: Go to the Document menu and select “Copy Link.” For Desktop

  • Redirect Quip Document Links to the Quip App: Tired of links to Quip documents opening in your dusty old web browser instead of your shiny Quip app? Go to your account menu (that’s your avatar, down in the lower left corner), select “Quip Desktop App...” and check off the “Open links in the app” checkbox. For Desktop

  • Text Alignment: Left, right, and center align your content to your heart’s content and make documents look the way you want. You’ll see the new alignment button in your document toolbar, and you can align every text style (including headings and paragraphs) except for lists. For Web, Mac, and Windows
